We're seeking compassionate Patient Care Technicians to assist with patient monitoring and support while enhancing your clinical skills in a team-oriented setting.Responsibilities :
- Assist with patient care, including daily living activities and therapies (physical, respiratory, cardiopulmonary).
- Perform core nursing assistant tasks such as vital signs, blood glucose, I&O, specimen collection, and Foley care.
- Complete additional tasks such as phlebotomy, EKG, Foley removal, bladder scans, and point-of-care testing.
- Report equipment malfunctions and maintain effective communication with other departments.
- Respond to call lights, pass meal trays, and assist with patient transport.
- Receive feedback, improve skills, and participate in self-review with the unit director.
- Educate patients and families under RN direction and manage patient restraints as needed.
- Adhere to safety protocols, policies, and confidentiality standards.
- Document patient care accurately and complete assigned clerical tasks.
- Achieve competency in advanced skills (e.g., phlebotomy, IV removal, EKG) based on department needs.Qualifications :
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year of general healthcare experience OR
- 6 months as UPMC Nursing Assistant / CNA with PCT competency (within 120 days of hire), OR
- enrollment in a healthcare program with at least 1 clinical rotation, OR
- bachelor's degree in health sciences.
- Successful completion of UPMC Patient Care Technician class and basic information systems training.
- Microcomputer experience preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- EMT / Paramedic certification or enrollment in an EMT / Paramedic program preferred.
- Access to medications limited to distribution to nurse.Licensure / Certifications :
- CPR (AHA standards) within 30 days of hire.
- ACLS preferred.
