- Patient Care : Assist with patient procedures and daily activities, including physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
- Nursing Support : Perform core nursing assistant tasks such as blood glucose monitoring, vital signs, specimen collections, and more.
- Communication : Establish effective communication with other departments and maintain professional relationships.
- Continuous Improvement : Receive and act on feedback, identify learning needs, and participate in self-review.
- Patient Instruction : Provide guidance to patients and their families under the direction of an RN.

- High school diploma or equivalent.Experience (one of the following) :
- 1 year of general healthcare experience, OR
- 6 months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant / CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days of hire / transfer / promotion, OR
- Enrollment in a PT / OT / PA program or related healthcare training program with at least one clinical rotation completed, OR
- Completion of a bachelor's degree in a health sciences field.Training :
- Successful completion of the UPMC patient care technician class.
- Successful completion of basic information system training.Preferred Skills :
- Microcomputer experience.
- Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- EMT or Paramedic certification, or current enrollment in an EMT or Paramedic program.Medication Access :
- Limited to distributing medication to the nurse.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances :
- CPR certification is required within 30 days of hire (must include both a didactic and skills demonstration component based on AHA standards).
- ACLS certification preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
