The University of Pittsburgh, Division of Health Services Research within the Department of Urology, is seeking a Qualitative Researcher to be an Assistant Professor on a non-tenure appointment stream track.
Responsibilities will include collaborating as a co-investigator on extramural grants and leading several qualitative studies. Candidates should have advanced formal education in qualitative research and demonstrate understanding and skill in using qualitative research methods such as funding, helping with writing qualitative approaches for grants and taking the lead on several qualitative studies with responsibilities including developing interview guides, conducting interviews, transcribing interviews, coding, and teaching a variety of trainees, such as fellows, residents, and medical students in qualitative research methods.

Candidate should also have prior experience in these skills (but are not limited to):
- Experience designing the approach for qualitative research sections for grants
- Experience writing qualitative research methods for grants and manuscripts
- Experience teaching trainees (e.g., fellow, residents, medical students, Master’s graduate students, PhD students) qualitative research methods
- Developing data collection guides (e.g., interviews, focus groups) and piloting
- Managing qualitative data, including the de-identification process, preparing files for importing into qualitative data management software, and transcription when needed
- Conducting direct observation in various off-site medical settings
- Conducting semi-structured interviews or focus groups using guides in a way that balances predetermined questions with the ability to pursue novel routes of questioning
- Participating in team-based codebook development and establishing appropriate inter-rater reliability
- Experience with NVivo for developing codebooks
- Participating in qualitative coding and analysis across multiple types of data sources (e.g., transcripts, videos, photographs)
- Monitoring study progress and timelines
- Suggesting improvements to our research methods and workflows
- Regularly communicating with members of the study team, collaborators, and research participants
- Willingness to teach qualitative research courses when opportunities arise
