What are the responsibilities and job description for the Public Safety Officer position at University of Saint Joseph?
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform routine patrols of and through University of Saint Joseph buildings and property utilizing various patrol methods including but not limited to vehicle, foot and bicycle patrols.
- Mediate disagreements between individuals in a calm and composed manner.
- Respond to emergency calls for assistance including medical emergencies, fire alarms and other alarms such including those relating to physical plant such as heat, etc.
- Respond to routine calls for assistance including safety escorts and lock-outs.
- Investigate and report complaints and violations of college regulations as well as state and federal laws.
- Investigate and report complaints of vehicle accidents on University property, safety hazards and fire and security alarms received.
- Effective documentation of violations of college policy and other events by producing legible written reports.
- Enforce parking regulations and regulates vehicle and pedestrian traffic on campus.
- Public Safety Officers are trained in First Aid, CPR and AED use.
- Maintain logs and records of occurrences, completes necessary paperwork, and may use computer terminal to input and retrieve data.
- Public Safety Officers are assigned to security details for University of Saint Joseph athletic events and social functions.
- Public Safety Officers may be required to work a wide variety of shifts including late night/early morning hours, weekends and holidays.
- Public Safety Officers may be required to report for duty at any time, including during states of emergency, college closings and inclement weather.
- Performs other duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous security or law enforcement experience
- CT Guard Card
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to handle difficult situations
- Excellent customer service skills; Professional demeanor and telephone manner
- Valid driver's license and good driving record
- Must have strong writing and computer skills
- Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment (a brief description) Public Safety Officers patrol and may be called upon to visit any and all areas of the campus, inside and outside, including areas of buildings that may not have elevator access. Outdoor patrols occur in all types of weather situations. |
