This is a Research Grant Position (RGP) to serve as the Assistant Director for the University of South Carolina Prevention Research Center (PRC). The Assistant Director’s primary activities are to (1) coordinate all evaluation activities of the University of South Carolina Prevention Researcher Center, including evaluation of the core research project and all Center and Network activities, and (2) oversee the day-to-day activities of the Center to ensure that its goals are monitored and attained. The project is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and is located at the University of South Carolina Prevention Research Center. The Center has been continuously funded through competitive applications to CDC since 1993.
Job Related Minimum Required Education And Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications
A doctoral degree in public health, psychology, or a closely related health-related field. Formal training and experience in research and/or program evaluation at the community level. Experience with minoritized populations. Experience conducting qualitative research and implementation monitoring.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Experience coordinating evaluation activities in a fast-paced environment is essential. Ability to create and manage deadlines, communicate effectively orally and in writing, and work with minimal supervision. Ability to multi-task and work efficiently under time pressure while maintaining high-quality work. Careful attention to detail and timely follow-up are critical. Ability to establish and maintain rapport with a diverse team comprised of academic, church, public health, and organizational partners. Must be culturally competent and at ease working in and moving about in underserved neighborhoods and with older adults. Able and willing to travel to multiple counties in South Carolina, including on the weekends, for data collection. Flexible on occasions when work schedule may vary. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office (including Excel). Working knowledge of creating REDCap databases is desirable.

Evaluation, monitoring, and reporting. With investigator involvement, coordinates and oversees all evaluation, monitoring, and reporting activities for both center activities and the core research project (an intervention that mobilizes social support to increase walking in older African American church members). Activities include leading measurement meetings; developing and monitoring measurable objectives and action plans; creating tracking systems (including a RedCap database); leading the preparation of progress reports to the funder; developing all evaluation protocols, online and in-person surveys, and telephone interview guides for the core research project in year 1 and implementing them in subsequent years; documenting study adaptations; and creating coding reports from qualitative data. On-site data collection at churches in SC will be required (typically on weekends).
