The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Engagement in The Graduate School plays a pivotal role in advancing graduate education by overseeing academic processes, policies, and graduate student services. The Associate Dean works in conjunction with The Graduate School Leadership Team and staff. This is a 12-month position with an administrative stipend. The Associate Dean:
Required Education and Experience
Education: PhD or equivalent.
Rank: Tenured professor (preferred) or tenured associate professor.
Experience: Academic leadership experience as a graduate director, chair, or associate/assistant dean, or related position (preferred).

Position Description
The Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Student Engagement in The Graduate School plays a pivotal role in advancing graduate education by overseeing academic processes, policies, and graduate student services. The Associate Dean works in conjunction with The Graduate School Leadership Team and staff. This is a 12-month position with an administrative stipend. The Associate Dean:
- Provides strategic direction for graduate education in collaboration with the Dean and other university stakeholders.
- Provides oversight and supervision for graduate student recruitment, admissions, retention, records, progression, and degree certification. The Associate Dean oversees and supervises the Graduate Enrollment Management Office, Office of Recruitment, and Office of Professional Development. The Associate Dean collaborates with the Vice Dean of The Graduate School to implement and evaluate and implement robust admissions and progression technology systems.
- Advocates for the diverse needs of graduate students, including but not limited to, mental health, financial aid and fellowships, professional development, career development and placement. The Associate Dean serves on the Graduate Hub Coordinating Committee and provides coordination for the development of comprehensive graduate student experiences and engagement in conjunction with programs, departments, colleges, and student affairs.
- Provides faculty with guidance and professional development on student engagement, supervision, and mentoring best practices.
- Coordinates the annual review and update of the Graduate Education Policies and Procedures with The Graduate School staff and relevant stakeholders. The Associate Dean ensures compliance with institutional standards and accreditation requirements.
- Leads the Presidential Fellowship program and collaborates with the Graduate Council and the Director of Recruitment to administer the Fellow’s selection process. The Associate Dean collaborates with the Director and Assistant Director of the Grace Jordan McFadden Professors Program to select participants and deliver the program.
Required Education and Experience
