The School of the Earth, Ocean & Environment (SEOE) at the University of South Carolina, Columbia, invites applications for a 9-month, full time, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Surface Water Science with geospatial methods to begin August 16, 2025.
We seek a surface water scientist who approaches problems via geospatial methods and whose research interests are in water quality, watershed dynamics, contaminant fate and transport, flooding, and/or environmental health. The successful candidate may use a variety of tools in their research, including GIS, remote sensing, and modeling, and should enjoy working across disciplinary boundaries to establish an externally-funded program of outstanding research and teaching. The Geospatial Scientist will join colleagues in the Institute for Clean Water and Healthy Ecosystems, a newly-established partnership between USC and the South Carolina Department of Environmental Services, whose mission is to catalyze and coordinate USC research efforts in scientific and socioeconomic aspects of water quality.
Appointment at the Associate Professor level is possible for candidates whose research
and teaching track record warrants tenure at the Associate Professor rank in the SEOE. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the SEOE, one course in each of the fall and spring semesters, as well as mentoring undergraduate and graduate students in research.
The SEOE is a multidisciplinary unit within the College of Arts and Sciences that serves as a center for innovative, integrative, and inclusive research and education across a broad spectrum of natural and social sciences, supporting degree programs in Geological Sciences, Marine Sciences, and the environmental social and natural sciences. Potential collaborative interactions exist within the School, the Institute for Clean Water and Healthy Ecosystems, and with other units across the University. Required Education And Experience
