The Carolina Grants & Innovation (CGI) Hub within the Office of Research is seeking to hire a Grant Writer for Health Sciences.
The Grant Writer for Health Sciences serves as a grant writer and editor for the Carolina Grants & Innovation Hub. The Grant Writer will work with University of South Carolina (USC) faculty and collaborators to prepare quality research grant applications for submission, including large/center proposals. The Grant Writer will also help in identifying funding opportunities relevant to USC Health Sciences research.
Job Related Minimum Required Education And Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in a health-related field and 3 years related experience, including grant writing experience.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Excellent writing and editing skills. Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in research and with word processing and referencing software. Ability to work independently.

Work alongside USC faculty to produce competitive health sciences research grant proposals through grant writing, expert technical editing, and background research. Clarify and improve logical flow and clarity of research proposals and technical content. Makes independent decisions to improve quality of proposal descriptions/narratives to provide to PIs for consideration
Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 40 Job Duty
Provide expert guidance on updates in National Institute of Health (NIH) and other health sciences agencies’ priorities, review criteria, guidelines, and policies and processes. Advise faculty and staff of changes and ensure that proposals submitted through the CGI Hub incorporate these changes to remain competitive.
Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 40 Job Duty
Manage the health-sciences research grant proposal writing workflow to meet both internal and external deadlines. Enhance progress, and if required, problem-solving of delays and team cooperation, through interactions, communication, and collaboration within research teams for large/center proposals.

Perform other writing, expert technical editing, and research development related responsibilities as assigned.
