Position Description

Research towards a project to review, rewrite, and update the current Seismic Design Sepecification (SDS) for highway bridges, which was developed by the SCDOT, to utilize it and become the new Seismic Design Manual (SDM) for bridges, as well as other structures such as retaining walls and other special structures.
Job Related Minimum Required Education And Experience
Requires a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree in area of research specialty by start date of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials Preferred Qualifications
PhD in Civil Engineering or other related field
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of earthquake geotechnical and structural engineering

Job Duty
Responsible for writing the Seismic Design Manual. This will involve collaborating with the research team to develop weekly tasks, which may include analyzing results from risk assessments, reviewing numerical modeling outcomes, and considering feedback from sponsors and external advisory members, among other activities. The process will include drafting the manual, circulating it among team members, and revising it based on their feedback. Will also work closely with a technical writing professional to refine and edit the manual.

Responsible for scheduling and attending weekly and bi-weekly meetings with the research team and sponsors. Will also be in charge of sending meeting documents, taking minutes, and sharing the minutes with the team after each meeting
