The Embedded Counselor for International Student and Scholar Support (ISSS) serves as the primary therapist and consultant for the ISSS office. The mission of International Student and Scholar Support is to offer support to nonimmigrant international students and institutional stakeholders on matters of immigration compliance and cross-culture adjustment to support academic success. The goal of the integrated model is to increase support of all USC students’ mental health and wellness via direct, local service delivery, including clinical, consultation, and prevention services targeting low and high-risk needs including developmental issues and diagnosable illnesses. This individual will work collaboratively with the clinical team, outreach and engagement team, and case management team to coordinate care and offer a wide range of services. The Embedded Counselor is housed within the ISSS office and spends the majority of their time providing clinical, outreach, and consultation services to this particular student group. The Embedded Counselor is a member of the Counseling and Psychiatry department. They will participate in all CAP related meetings and part of their caseload may include domestic students. The Embedded Counselor reports directly to the Associate Director of Integrated Services. This position is considered essential personnel.

Job Related Minimum Required Education and Experience
Requires a bachelor’s degree in a job related field and 3 or more years of job related experience, which may be substituted by an equivalent combination of job related certification, training, education, and/or experience.
Required Certification, Licensure/Other Credentials
Licensed or license-eligible in the relevant field within the state of South Carolina.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s or Doctoral degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
- At least 4 years of clinical experience in the mental health field.
- 2 years clinical experience post-licensure, practicing independently.
- Experience working in a higher education counseling center or student wellness environment.
- Bilingual (preferred languages Mandarin, Hindi, Arabic) or extensive international experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Strong clinical, interpersonal, administrative, and decision-making skills.
Performs clinical responsibilities independently and exhibits discretion with respect to care and treatment.
Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
Knowledge of mental health issues impacting college students.
Ability to work with international population and understanding of immigration issues.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse populations and foster an inclusive environment.
Knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, and ethical guidelines in mental health practice.
