Groundskeeper (Building & Grounds Spec III), Minimum Salary: $32,686 per year, USC Aiken Landscaping and Grounds Services
At direction from Landscape Manager, performs hands on grounds keeping and landscaping activities to meet University goals and objectives. Knowledge of grounds keeping maintenance standards, requirements and tasks. Enforce and/or practice safe work habits. Knowledge of sprinkler system design, maintenance and turf grass management. Knowledge of personal computer and Excel spreadsheets. Good skills in written and oral communication. Must be able to prioritize tasks. Ability to work with many personality types. Ability to perform strenuous manual labor. Must be able to bend, stretch and pick up at least 50 pounds. Must be able to work outside in heat, cold and rain. Minimum Requirements: a high school diploma or GED and no prior work experience. Preferred: Two years related experience along with herbicide license, horticulture training, and experience with operation and maintenance with large irrigation systems. Performs ground and landscaping activities including but not limited to mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, blowing debris, and others to ensure the grounds of the university are clean and presentable year round. Sprays herbicide where needed and removes weeds and debris. Maintains athletic fields by using appropriate mowing methods, fertilization, aeration, irrigation to ensure healthy athletic turf.

Obtains quotes for goods and services from outside contractors to accomplish grounds tasks. Keeps inventory and performs maintenance of all ground equipment and schedules maintenance and repairs for equipment. Prepares budget requests for anticipated grounds needs. Maintains records for pesticides and other chemicals. Utilizes “school dude” to track grounds work and costs.
