What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lecturer of Piano, Fall 2025 position at University of Tennessee, Knoxville?
Nine-month, non-tenure-track, one-year appointment beginning August 1, 2025. Salary and fringe benefits are competitive and commensurate with rank and experience. The primary responsibilities of this faculty member are to teach applied piano at the undergraduate and graduate levels while maintaining a strong piano studio. Additional duties include teaching courses such as keyboard literature, keyboard harmony, keyboard pedagogy, and coaching chamber music. The appointment may also involve other responsibilities, including assisting with keyboard-related events, such as the piano festival, depending on the needs of the keyboard area.
The Keyboard Studies at the University of Tennessee is an internationally recognized program with students from Asia, Europe, and North America. An all-Steinway School with both New York and Hamburg Steinway pianos in the concert halls and teaching studios, the keyboard area provides a wealth of performance opportunities including solo, chamber music, and concerto with orchestra. Students from the program have enjoyed success in numerous international competitions and achieved recognition in performance and academia.

Required Qualifications: 1) Master’s minimum, doctorate (including ABD) or equivalent professional profile preferred; 2) A consistent record of professional experience and visibility as a performer/scholar; 3) Demonstrated success in college-level teaching.
Preferred Qualifications: 1) Extensive knowledge in keyboard literature and pedagogy methods and trends; 2) Strong understanding of diverse solo or chamber music repertoires; 3) The ideal candidate must have excellent organization and communication skills and interest/experience in interdisciplinary work and/or community outreach activities.
