The US NSF Center for Analysis and Prediction of Pandemic Expansion (APPEX) within the University of Tennessee welcomes applications for a post-doctoral research associate in areas associated with mathematical and computational models in pandemic science. These models can be applied in any relevant field! Sociology? Computer Science? Psychology? Game Theory? Immunology? Physics? Ecology? Yes! Any/all of them! We want curious and creative quantitative thinkers who are interested in bridging the barriers among disciplines.
APPEX is a national research center dedicated to advancing understanding of how humans influence the risk that isolated outbreaks become global pandemics, mostly via mathematical and computational modeling. Our Center promotes groundbreaking team science and enhancing inclusivity and diversity in the mathematical and epidemiological workforce.
Postdoctoral researchers at APPEX will be expected to work with multiple working group teams, thus the position description focuses on the skills and perspectives that will round out a community of scholarship, rather than on particular research questions.
