Job Description:
The Financial Analyst in Financial Planning and Analytics at The University of Tennessee Medical Center provides sound financial analysis for operating budgets, capital budgets and monthly variances. The analyst will be responsible for all data related to the budget process and will assist in the maintenance and improvement of our budget, productivity and decision support software. Candidates must have the ability to work at a detailed level and provide analyses. The analyst must utilize excellent verbal and written communication skills to establish effective working relationships and manage multiple priorities. Problem solving, analytical skills, and critical thinking are a must for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Participates in the preparation of annual budgets and acts as supportive counsel for clinical leadership
- Assists in training end users in understanding the budget process, productivity, and monthly financial analysis
- Identify and interpret historical trends
- Routinely prepare reports for senior leadership
- Design reports that communicate performance, identify issues, and contribute to better management decisions
- Perform comprehensive financial analysis of physician and hospital related metrics, including monthly statistical reporting and budget variance analysis
- Support clinical operations through financial reporting, analysis, and recommend action plans
- Extract appropriate data from supporting systems and prepare ad hoc analyses and reports
- Proactively manage timelines for projects
- Recognize and understand the flow of data and impact from upstream and downstream systems
- Maintains professional growth and development by engaging in continuing education, attending seminars, and affiliating with professional organizations to remain informed about industry trends
- Ensure data integrity through audit & analysis; troubleshoot and remedy data anomalies
Job Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Analytics or related field is required.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills are essential to this role. The qualified applicant must have effective communication skills and the ability to work well in a highly collaborative team environment, as well as independently in taking initiative and leadership in moving objectives forward. Healthcare experience working with data from various sources including but not limited to Cost Accounting, Decision Support, Revenue Cycle, Managed Care, General Ledger, Payroll, Physician Practice, Patient Accounting & Supply Chain, is preferred.
