Position Summary:
The University of Tennessee Medical Center's Nursing Extern Program provides nursing students with a paid opportunity to expand clinical knowledge and increase confidence in the healthcare setting. The Extern Program includes learning alongside a Registered Nurse in addition to specialized learning opportunities.
The program will begin on May 22, 2023 and will go through July 29, 2023.
The Nursing Extern performs direct and indirect patient care activities under supervision of licensed personnel. Externs are employed by the hospital, but are not licensed personnel.
Job Duties:
- Provides all assessment and patient care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse
- Performs direct patient care activities while maintaining maximum comfort and safety of patients
- Maintains neatness, cleanliness, and readiness of physical facilities of patient care units
- Assists team members to meet patient care needs
- Provides nursing care specific to age-related needs
- Promotes patient experience
Complies with established departmental policies and procedures
Attend required and supplemental education related to Extern Program
Position Qualification:
All applicants must meet the following requirements:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Completed 1 full year in an accredited Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
- Projected to graduate from an Accredited Nursing Program with Bachelor of Science in Nursing by Spring 2023.
- 3.0 GPA or above.
- Available to work 8 to 12-hour shifts, days; 3 times per week; May 23, 2022 to July 31, 2022.
- Available to attend orientation scheduled on:
May 23, 2022 to May 27, 2022 from 8:00am - 5:00pm
