The ideal candidate will have a record that demonstrates excellent teaching potential with expertise in teaching topics in nursing. Additionally, the ideal candidate should have a strong commitment to teaching and service and should thrive in a diverse and intellectually stimulating environment.
Duties :
Participate in the ongoing development, implementation, evaluation, and enhancement of nursing academic programs :
Participate in program and course revisions.
Revise assigned courses to reflect program outcomes, AACN essentials, state board of nursing minimum standards, current evidence, and best practice.
Collaborate with emphasis area coordinators, clinical concentration coordinators, program directors, and the Associate and Assistant Deans to identify the types of clinical experiences and sites needed for optimal clinical education of students.
Teach graduate and undergraduate nursing courses as assigned.
Supervise nursing students as assigned.
Collaborate with clinical agencies in arranging student clinical experiences (. orientation to objectives of clinical experience, course syllabus, clinical schedule, et al) as appropriate.
Participate in the development of academic policies affecting the admission, progression, graduation and dismissal of students.
Participate in the evaluation and ongoing enhancement of the curricula.
Apply evidence from best education practices to curriculum development and to teaching.
Serve the College of Nursing, University, community and profession :
Participate in College of Nursing faculty, standing committee, task force and other meetings.
Participate in Faculty Senate Committees and ad hoc committees, as elected.
Participate in community and professional activities as appropriate.
Participate in scholarly projects as appropriate.
Contribute to the mission and strategic priorities of the College of Nursing and the University of Tennessee Knoxville
Collaborate effectively with other faculty and staff members both within the College of Nursing and throughout the University and community to develop inter-professional academic, clinical, and research opportunities.
Required Qualifications :
Earned doctorate (PhD or DNP)
Professional experience commensurate with rank
Evidence of teaching experience
Defined area of research / scholarly activity
Licensure as a registered nurse in Tennessee prior to employment.
If teaching NP students, national certification as a nurse practitioner and prior to employment recognition by the Tennessee Board of Nursing as an advanced practice registered nurse.
3 years of nursing practice experience.
Evidence of successful classroom and / or clinical teaching experience.
Effective interpersonal skills and cultural competence.
Ability to work with a diverse group of students and colleagues.
Desirable Qualifications :
Eligibility for RN / APRN license in Tennessee
Experience with instructional media and technology
This position is open to those who qualify and can be appointed as one of the following ranks in the College of Nursing. Rank appointment is dependent on education and qualifications relative to the university and college standards and will be determined by academic leadership in accordance with faculty handbook, policies, and procedures.
Clinical Assistant Professor : This rank is for those who have completed a doctoral degree or terminal degree appropriate to the field or who are licensed or certified to practice the profession where appropriate. Clinical Associate Professor : This rank is for those who have completed a doctoral degree or a terminal degree appropriate to the field and who are licensed or certified to practice the profession where appropriate. Individuals holding this rank have demonstrated excellence in areas of responsibility recorded in the hiring unit’s annual documentation of the NTT faculty’s workload distribution and responsibilities.
Clinical Professor : This rank is for those who have completed a doctoral degree or a terminal degree appropriate to the field and who are licensed or certified to practice the profession where appropriate. Individuals holding this rank have demonstrated a consistent record of excellence in areas of responsibility recorded in the hiring unit’s annual documentation of the NTT faculty’s workload distribution and responsibilities.
