The Department of Ophthalmology at The University of Texas at Austin Dell Medical School is recruiting a full-time academic neuro-ophthalmologist. This is an open rank position for either an ophthalmology or neurology trained neuro-ophthalmologist.

About the Department of Ophthalmology

The Department of Ophthalmology is comprised of faculty representing a wide range of specialties in adult and pediatric ophthalmology with a focus on delivering outstanding care to the community.

The faculty of the Mitchel and Shannon Wong Eye Institute are conducting world class translational and clinical science research across The University of Texas at Austin. Our faculty are also committed to the education and training our ophthalmology residents, in the next generation of ophthalmic leaders.

  • Provide comprehensive education for students, clinicians, patients, and the community.

About Austin

Essential Functions:

  • Serve as a clinical neuro-ophthalmologist to deliver evidence-based care.
  • Actively participate in the training of residents and students.
  • Participate in strategic planning and other efforts directly tied to the development and growth the neuro-ophthalmology program and the ophthalmology department.
  • Develop partnerships with referring physicians, hospitals, and ancillary providers in Austin and Central Texas.
  • Develop and foster an atmosphere of scientific and academic inquiry in conjunction with trainees and researchers.
  • Collaborate with other schools at The University of Texas at Austin.
  • Actively participate in the academic department by all required departmental policies.
Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Requirements include an M.D. degree or equivalent, successful completion of an approved residency in ophthalmology or neurology, fellowship training in neuro-ophthalmology, eligibility for Texas licensure, board certification or eligibility by the American Board of Ophthalmology or the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
  • Unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas (or the ability to obtain prior to appointment).
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary academic environment.
  • Outstanding clinical teaching skills and scholarship.
  • Innovative self-starter with a commitment to excellence in clinical care and scholarship.
  • Excellent communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Eligible for appointment as an Assistant or Associate or Professor rank in the Department of Ophthalmology, Dell Medical School, at UT Austin.
