Job Summary
Dr. Bohua Hu, a professor in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing, is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to participate in research on the biological and molecular mechanisms of hearing loss. This research focuses on using mouse models to investigate cochlear responses to various pathological conditions, including acoustic injury, age-related degeneration, ototoxicity, and genetic mutations. The lab employs various techniques such as auditory evaluations (auditory brainstem response and otoacoustic emission testing), cochlear tissue collection, and pathological assessment. Candidates with experience in molecular analyses of cochlear tissues are preferred. Competitive applicants should have experience with one or more of these techniques and a background in research productivity.

The Research Associate will be primarily responsible for designing and conducting a variety of experiments, as well as analyzing and interpreting research data. Additionally, they will contribute to manuscript preparation for publication and participate in training students involved in research studies, and conduct experiments using advanced equipment and applying complex techniques, methods and procedures; plan and execute the details of experiments according to research protocol.

This position is in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing within the School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences at The University of Texas at Dallas (UTD - https://bbs.utdallas.edu). The research lab is housed in the Texas Instruments Biomedical Engineering and Sciences Building, a state-of-the-art research facility located on the UT Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) campus in Dallas, near the Callier Center for Communication Disorders.

This is a UTD and NIH grant funded position. The salary for Post-Doctoral Research Associates in BBS is determined by years of experience per the current NIH (NRSA) stipend levels.

Salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications.

This position is funded for a 1 year with the possibility of renewal, dependent on performance and continued funding availability.
Minimum Education and Experience
Ph.D in a related field.

  • Ph.D. in neuroscience, hearing sciences, molecular biology or a related field
  • One or more first author papers published or accepted in a peer-reviewed journal
  • Prior experience with mouse handling and hearing research training
  • Prior experience with molecular biology techniques
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Design and execute in vivo mouse experiments, in collaboration with the PI, other lab personnel and students
  • Maintain comprehensive records of results and laboratory protocols
  • Evaluate and interpret research data using rigorous statistical and signal processing techniques
  • Present research results in publications and at meetings, in collaboration with the PI
  • Mentor and train graduate and undergraduate students in the laboratory
  • Other duties as assigned

  • A board understanding of the relevant neuroscience, molecular biology and hearing science literature.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with strong oral and written communication skills
  • Good command of the English language (both written and verbal)
