What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Student Success/Quality Enhancement Plan position at University of Texas at El Paso?
Each University accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges must have a Quality Enhancement Plan that focuses resources and efforts on the enhancement of student success, as defined by that institution’s strategic planning and institutional effectiveness process.
The Director of Student Success/Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) provides leadership, coordination, and overall management of the UTEP Edge (current Quality Enhancement Plan), which promotes integrated and applied learning experiences to improve student success through engagement. The Director collaborates with faculty and staff across all colleges and schools to promote inclusion of the Edge's asset-based philosophy and integrated experiences in and out of the classroom. Additionally, the Director leads key initiatives, including the UTEP Edge Fellowship, an annual symposium, marketing and communications efforts, and travel scholarship opportunities for students. The Director will also play a key role in the development and similar implementation of the university's next QEP.
The Director collaborates with other units under the umbrella of High Impact and Innovative Teaching (HIIT) to contribute to an integrative approach to developing more impactful teaching across campus. These units include, but are not limited to, High-Impact Practices (HIPs) Directors, Student Affairs, academic advising, Institute for Scholarship, Pedagogy, Innovation and Research Excellence (InSPIRE), Center for Institutional Evaluation, Research, and Planning (CIERP), and other campus partners to ensure systemic adoption, assessment, and effectiveness of the Edge and the subsequent QEP.
Essential Functions
Strategic Leadership and Collaboration:
- Collaborates with faculty and staff to develop and implement strategies that support and increase student participation in Integrated and Applied Learning Experiences, also known as High-Impact Practices (HIPs).
- Partners with the Curriculum Effectiveness and Improvement team to support the assessment of institutional learning outcomes and curriculum redesign efforts.
- Partners with key stakeholders to develop, implement, and communicate UTEP’s next QEP, including the transition from the UTEP Edge
- Stays informed of national trends and promising practices related to QEP goals
Program Development and Oversight:
- Oversees the Edge Fellowship for faculty and staff, providing leadership and professional development opportunities that promote the mission of UTEP Edge.
- Provides support for UTEP Edge Curriculum Fellows (faculty-only fellowship program).
- Organizes and leads the annual UTEP Edge Symposium to showcase best practices and promote campus-wide initiatives.
- Oversees QEP budget, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities
- Administers UTEP Edge Travel Scholarship, supporting students’ participation in experiential learning opportunities
Marketing and Communications:
- Directs marketing efforts of QEP, including the creation of student testimonial videos, social media campaigns, and collateral materials, in collaboration with the Office of Marketing and Communications.
- Oversees the maintenance of the UTEP Edge website and amplifies online presence.
Assessment and Reporting:
- Collaborates with partners to evaluate the efficacy and impact of the QEP
- Prepares regular and annual reports for the vice provost and other stakeholders on progress, priorities, and desired learning outcomes.
Complies with all State and University policies.
Completes other assignments as requested.
Supervisory Responsibilities Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's objectives, policies and applicable laws.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
Education: Master’s Degree
and
Experience: At least two years of experience related to the statement of duties and responsibilities in developing and managing medium-to-large projects as they relate to undergraduate studies or other higher education issues, to include project and/or program management, undergraduate program business; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Previous higher education management experience and occasional travel required. Excellent written and oral communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience supervising staff and managing budgets.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working in cross-unit collaborations. Experience working with faculty and staff to promote and assess student engagement
