Essential Functions

Job Summary

To coordinate, manage, and evaluate ConTex academic programs which include Doctoral Fellowships, Postdoctoral Fellowships, and Collaborative Research Programs. Responsible for providing professional academic/administrative level support, assigned programs, which may include budget coordination, program selection, program evaluation, staff supervision, and future program planning.

ConTex is an office and program established by the University of Texas System to support a program of cooperation with Mexico's Secretariat of Science, Humanities, Technology and Innovation (Secihti, formerly Conahcyt). ConTex supports binational academic and research activities in graduate education, postdoctoral and faculty exchanges, mobility on non-degree graduate students, and collaborative research projects. The UTSA Office of the President is responsible for overseeing the ConTex program and office.

Core Responsibilities
  • Assumes leadership role in applicant recruitment and development of application processes for ConTex programs. Responsibilities include program marketing; application review; and responsive communication to ensure applicants remain informed on application status. Evaluates program enrollment processes for changes/improvement and make recommendations to optimize efficient program workflows and evolvement.
  • Serves as official ConTex representative at professional meetings, conferences, college advisement programs and other relevant events.
  • Complies, updates and organizes listserves and directories of multiple audiences for ConTex information dissemination, communication and marketing strategies. Serves as key point of contact and coordination with Secihti and UT System host institutions on a wide range of program-related issues.
  • Assist program scholars and faculty as needed with communication and coordination regarding ConTex program enrollment, application process, award expenditures, and reporting.
  • Compiles and tracks program related expenses. Provides key input on program expense management and expenditures to further the program visibility and effectiveness.
  • Responsible for creating, tracking, monitoring, and maintaining the academic program's information database for institutional, departmental, and external program reporting.
  • Compiles and tracks program-related information, including current and past submissions, awards, selection, and evaluation criteria. Develops and implements annual reporting processes and provides feedback regarding program implementation and management to improve processes and generating metrics for program success.
  • Develops a database of UT System and Secihti scholars and researchers in priority areas to help applicants identify potential partners and collaborators.
  • Support in elaboration of publications and compilations of research outcomes from ConTex awards, including awardees' research reports and edited collections (UTSystem-Secihti-ConTex).
  • Write and edit academic papers derived from ConTex conference and programs for publication.
  • Assist with the coordination of local, out of state, and international academic meetings, workshops, conferences, and symposiums; as well as, the coordination of special events and visits by visiting dignitaries.
  • Performs other duties as needed.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Three (3) years of professional work experience in higher education programs, including those involving research, student recruitment, or advising activities.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree or doctorate degree from an accredited institution.
  • Working experience with international programs.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office Software Suite and standard office equipment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Spanish.
  • A working understanding of academic and research functions in a university setting.
  • An understanding of graduate level education and research programs at higher educational institutions in both Mexico and the United States.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in data analysis and report writing.
  • Language and cultural proficiency to communicate in both English and Spanish at a professional, academic, and administrative level.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred
  • Experience developing and evaluating research proposals and budgets.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team setting to develop, implement, evaluate, and revise academic and research projects at higher education level in Mexico and the United States.
  • Experience in academic program management.
  • Experience in higher education and research in both Mexico and the United States.

Physical Demands:
  • Sedentary: Up to 10lbs - Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

This position will require working both remotely in Texas and on campus (approximately five or more days on campus per month). Travel and parking expenses are the employee's responsibility. Applicants must be adaptable and open to working in both environments.
