Salary Range

$12.00 an hour

Essential Functions


Student Orientation Coordinators (SOCs) are responsible for assisting in the planning and execution of New Student Orientation at UTPB and training the Orientation Leader (OL) team. SOCs must be able to take initiative, be perceptive, flexible, and empathetic, and work well in a team environment.

  • The responsibilities of a Student Orientation Coordinator include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing leadership and mentorship to the Orientation Leader (OL) team, guiding them through training and orientation programming

  • Leading logistical efforts to ensure orientation events run smoothly, including schedule management and materials preparation

  • Sharing a clear and positive overview of the academic program, culture and expectations at UTPB with new students and families

  • Collaborating with university departments to develop engaging and informative orientation content for new students and their families

  • Working each orientation session including preparation, set-up, and tear-down

  • Supporting the Student Activities staff during Weeks of Welcome and other campus events

Required Qualifications


1.Maintain a 2.5 cumulative GPA at time of application and throughout employment

2.Must have previously served as an Orientation Leader

3.Be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University at time of application and throughout employment

4.Be enrolled as a full-time student at UTPB: 12 credit hours as an undergraduate, 9 credit hours as a graduate student during Spring 2025

5.Be a returning student for Fall 2025

6.Attend the NODA Region IV Conference in Denton, TX on March 28-30, 2025, with university staff

7.Mandatory attendance at all trainings, orientation sessions, and Weeks of Welcome (please see 2025 dates below)

a. Staff Headshots: April 25

b .Trainings: May 12 – June 6 (excludes Memorial Day, May 26)

c. Transfer Sessions: April 3 (returning OLs), May 29, July 31, August 20

d. Freshmen Sessions: June 9-10, June 16-17, June 23-24, July 21-22

e. Weeks of Welcome: August 18 – September 1

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Hours worked may differ with some departments.


Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation
