Brief Description of Duties

This position is instrumental in assisting the Director of Academic Success in the development and implementation of those programs and activities that will serve the general purpose of the Academic Success Program. The academic success instructor will serve the mission of the Academic Success Program at UDC Law in assisting students with developing, practicing and reaching the highest level of proficiency regarding those skills necessary for law school, bar exam, and legal practitioner success. The position is a twelve-month appointment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach required academic success courses to first-year and upper-level students.
  • Plan and develop academic success materials for academic success courses and programs.
  • Provide individual one-on-one academic counseling and instruction for students.
  • Review and comment on academic success assignments.
  • Assist students in reviewing past exams and assignments associated with their doctrinal courses.
  • Assist with planning, developing and implementing other academic success initiatives, including workshops, forums, exercises and other skill building and learning opportunities.
  • Coordinate the integration of academic success best practices across the curriculum.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Academic Success.

Minimum Job Requirements

  • An earned Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and be a member in good standing of any bar in the United States.
  • Evidence of teaching experience or demonstrated potential for effective teaching.

This is a sponsored program appointment. The duration of this appointment is subject to grant fund availability.

Collective Bargaining Unit (Non-Union): This position is not in the collective bargaining unit.
