Job Title: Nurse Practitioner
Brief Summary: University Health Services provides healthcare services and health promotion at the University of the District of Columbia (UDC). The Nurse Practitioner is responsible for providing direct patient healthcare to students with a focus on health maintenance and preventive measures.
Job Description:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Provides direct primary care and treatment to patients, including physical examinations, diagnosis, and referrals according to accepted medical standards.
- Identifies and addresses high-risk behaviors that may compromise students' health, creates patient care plans, and teaches patients skills such as breast and testicular self-exams, disease self-monitoring, and health maintenance.
- Performs medical histories, conducts physical exams, and provides GYN services, including pelvic exams and pregnancy testing.
- Collects specimens, requests diagnostic laboratory tests and radiological exams, explains diagnostic results and their implications to patients, and prescribes medicines.
Other Responsibilities:
- Documents healthcare visits in the electronic medical records system, provides patients with written educational materials, and safeguards patients' medical privacy.
- Ensures full operation of the clinic, maintains compliance with standard medical practices, and reviews immunization records, entering them into the electronic medical record system as needed.
- Monitors vaccine compliance according to DC Law, notifies the director or coordinator to place orders for supplies, and contributes to developing UHS policies and procedures, patient educational materials, and health information services for the campus community through workshops, health screenings, flu vaccines, and COVID-19 testing and vaccinations.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervises training for nursing students from the UDC School of Allied Health and Nurse Practitioner students from other universities as authorized.
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum one year experience as a family nurse practitioner with expertise in gynecology and primary care.
- Current license or eligibility for licensure in the District of Columbia as a certified Nurse Practitioner.
- Master's degree from an approved/university program for Adult/Family Nurse Practitioner and graduate-level education.
- Experience in the general operations of a clinic or ambulatory health services and certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation with Automated External Defibrillator Component (CPR/AED).

- Experience working in a college health setting.
