Position Summary
The Accountant is instrumental in ensuring the University of the Incarnate Word and related entities are in compliance with tax and debt regulations, reporting requirements, and provides annual audit support. The Accountant analyzes and reconciles various accounts and serves as a resource/liaison to academic and administrative departments. The Accountant reports to the Director of Financial Operations.

- Assists in the preparation/submission of the university tax returns, including but not limited to Forms 990 and 990-T.
- Ensures compliance with collection and remittance of sales tax and hotel occupancy tax to both state and local governments.
- Collaborates with relevant institutional departments to ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Conducts research on legislative changes that may impact the university.
- Responds to inquiries accurately and in a timely manner.

- Prepares annual financial audit work papers.
- Collaborates with external auditors in the preparation of the annual benefits audit.
- Prepares confirmation letters.
- Prepares annual compliance documents and associated supplementary information.

- Prepares annual debt disclosure requirement summary.
- Prepares Moody’s annual disclosure request.
- Prepares quarterly and annual financial statements for international joint ventures.
- Assists in the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements for international consolidated entities.
- Prepares quarterly compliance documents.

- Prepares monthly reconciliations and journal entries as needed.
- Maintains/retains documents in accordance with retention policy.
- Assists in the preparation of the annual debt service budget.
- Provides guidance and mentoring to student employees.
