Position Summary
The Department of Biology at the University of the Incarnate Word invites full-time, non-tenure track candidates for Instructor of Biology beginning August 2025. Full-time instructors at UIW are expected to teach five (3-hour) courses in the fall and five (3-hour) courses in the spring semester. Courses taught will primarily include lectures and laboratory courses in anatomy and physiology and other general biology courses as needed.
In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities.

Primary responsibilities include:
- Prepare and deliver interactive undergraduate lectures and laboratory courses consistent with the needs of the department. Needs include but are not limited to general biology, anatomy, physiology, and microbiology.
- Participate in curriculum development.
- Prepare course outlines based on approved departmental syllabi.
- Prepare and administer timely and meaningful assessments for assigned courses.
- Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure standard curriculum outcomes are met.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate students of respective majors; provide individual assistance to students during weekly office hours.
- Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook, including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
- Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
- Actively collaborate with students and faculty within the department, from other disciplines, and the University’s health professions schools in support the university’s mission.
- Provide service to the department, School of Mathematics, Science, and Engineering, university, community, and profession.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
