JOB TITLE: Student Retention and Services Advisor
JOB SUMMARY:
Performs duties related to the student and retention services of the University, in accordance with University and Department policies. This position reports to the Dean of Student Retention Services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Applying professional Student Services concepts, provides support to students individually and to student groups.
· Collaborates with other University departments to manage student events done by the Student Services Office, including Orientation, Commencement, and New Student Orientation.
· Ensures smooth-running, effective events, including successfully recognizing and resolving potential and real problems in a timely manner using tact, sensitivity, discretion, and political acumen.
· Coordinate with student groups to ensure the continued development of an inclusive, student-focused culture.
· Oversees and plan programs, workshops, and training sessions with students to promote the school's effort to build and maintain an environment that is inclusive, pluralistic, and diverse.
· The Student and Retention Services adviser will participate in the development, coordination, and implementation of retention initiatives to ensure student success. Understands University and College retention, recruitment, and graduation goals while providing reports based on qualitative and quantitative date.
· Assists with research in new trends in retention and advising practices; determines if readmission applications meet requirements for readmission after withdrawal.
· Serve as leave of absence captain ensuring all requests are handled in a timely manner
· Advisor will work closely with the Academic team to ensure student change request forms are correct and approved.
· Advisor will serve as the SAP (satisfactory academic progress) liaison in partnership with Academics.
· Assists with creating annual Honors event in partnership with Academic Affairs.
Required Qualifications
· Working knowledge of advising techniques.
· Excellent customer service skills
· Excellent organizational and oral/written communication skills
· Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
· Ability to handle frequent interruptions and still meet multiple deadlines
· Interpersonal skills. Multicultural competencies: ability to work with diverse populations.
· Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of student records following confidentiality rules established by FERPA
· Highly effective problem identification and solving skills, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organization skills and the ability to present inform
Preference:
Bachelor's degree
· Prior Administration experience preferred
· Proficient in Excel, word, and salesforce
