Job Description:

The Promotions Specialist is an integral member of the communications team and assists with the planning and promotion of day-to-day and high-profile events, and marketing activities of the college. This position is responsible for event planning and support for the college's communications channels including website, social media, press releases, e-newsletters, alumni magazine, digital signs/ads, presentations, and other storytelling initiatives to attract prospective students and engage current students and alumni. The Promotions Specialist also assists with executing multimedia campaigns to enhance student engagement, elevating the reputation of the college and increasing enrollment.

The Promotions Specialist collaborates with college administration, the university marketing and communications team and the law admissions team on communication efforts. This position is full-time and reports to the Supervisor, Marketing & Communications.

Responsibilities of this position include:
  • Developing content, design, and publish weekly, monthly, and quarterly email newsletters. Measuring analytics, when possible, to make recommendations for improvement. Maintain online master calendar and Invonet with college deadlines and events. Maintaining digital display board.
  • Maintaining active social media presence on college's Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube accounts—managing editorial calendar, post copying, coordinating or designing assets, scheduling posts, and publishing content on various channels. Monitoring conversations, engaging with followers, and identifying opportunities for follower engagement and audience development. Preparing monthly analytics report with recommendations for improvement. Staying up-to-date on the latest social media trends and best practices.
  • Planning and executing events and presentations including catering, RSVP form creation/processing, and A/V coordination. Developing and implementing promotional plans for college events such as webpages, email, direct mail, social media, and external media outlet
  • Drafting copy for a variety of communications channels from drafting and editing phases to approval. Editing and assisting in stories for newsletters, Transcript magazine and UToledo News referencing the University Writing Style Guide.
  • Supporting and maintaining college website, as well as MyUT Law tab and calendar. Updating or refreshing content, as required. Developing new web content, both stories and web-ready graphics to support ADA compliance.
  • Uploading and maintaining photo database and processing photo releases. Measuring analytics for newsletters, social media, web pages, and make recommendations for improvement.

The Promotions Specialist is a critical member of the communications team and is responsible for community engagement with the goals of elevating the reputation of the college and increasing enrollment. This position is required for compliance with various ABA accreditation standards. ABA standards require specific website layout and content, including information that changes on a regular basis and this position serves as a consistent point of contact to the college's faculty and student services (admissions, career services, registrar, financial aid, and alumni affairs) offices.

The Promotions Specialist reports to the Supervisor, Marketing & Communications and receives work direction from dean, associate deans, and assistant deans of the College of Law. This position has no direct reports.

Candidates may be required to provide work examples and/or a portfolio.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required Education/Experience/Licensing:
  • Bachelors’ degree in communications, marketing, or other related field
  • Minimum of six (6) months related work experience
  • Experience in all facets of publicity and promotions in both print and digital forms
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud and Microsoft software

Communication and Other skills:
  • Familiar with both print and digital formats of publicity and promotion, including social media
  • Outstanding presentation, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in fast-paced environment, multitask and prioritize projects and flexibility to adapt to changing goals and priorities
  • Ability to think and perform creatively
  • Self-motivated and well organized with attention to detail, consistency, and accuracy
  • Capable of executing tasks and resolving issues independently with minimal supervision
  • Aptitude for learning new technologies quickly; keeping up with emerging marketing trends and best practices
  • Must have the ability to as well as meet the requirements to complete and maintain mandatory training per the University mandatory training policy pursuant to the deadlines set forth therein
  • The successful candidate must be a proactive, cross-functional team player, creative thinker and copywriter with strong organization and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Event coordination, community outreach, and graphic design experience
  • Exceptional research, copywriting, and proofreading skills
  • Basic understanding of HTML, search engine optimization, and web design with experience working within content management system (OmniUpdate or Drupal)
  • Knowledge of social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube and Hootsuite) and email marketing systems (Constant Contact or MailChimp)
  • Experience working in the higher education environment
