Job Summary
The Utah Museum of Fine Arts is located on the campus of the University of Utah and offers visitors the opportunity to explore over 5,000 years of human creativity with a collection of over 20,000 objects and art works from classic Greek and Roman antiquities to cutting-edge, contemporary art. Founded in 1914, the UMFA is the state of Utah’s art museum, creating exhibitions and programs that serve a wide array of audiences. The UMFA is housed in the award-winning Marcia and John Price Museum Building.
Candidates for this position will be primarily assigned to the front of house, but will be expected to demonstrate knowledge of kitchen duties, food preparation, recipes, etc. The UMFA Café Barista Staff is responsible for delivering excellent customer service and expertly prepared café food and beverage. They must maintain a high level of cleanliness and demonstrate current Museum knowledge.
Responsibilities
Barista staff will require a Utah Food Handler’s permit ( UMFA will provide if necessary)
Barista staff’s primary responsibilities are as follows:
a. Prepares café beverages, handles cash/credit transactions and provides customer service
b. Proficient in espresso machine operation, beverage recipe preparation and overall presentation
c. Prepare menu items in a timely fashion according to recipe and customer needs
d. Assist with catering and event preparation as appropriate
e. Accomplish opening and closing tasks both independently and in small teams
f. Receive deliveries; check for accuracy and approve packing slips
g. Restock/check inventory levels of products and supplies, notify supervisor of needs, remove expired inventory
h. Clean and maintain front of house and café equipment
i. Remove all trash and food debris daily
j. Maintain high levels of personal hygiene
Demonstrates museum knowledge:
a. Responsible for general knowledge of Museum operations
b. Awareness of current exhibitions and programs
c. Receives updates via email, reviews general calendar and responds to email
d. Assist guests with calendar, exhibition, program and event questions
Minimum Qualifications
Current Food Handler’s Permit within one month of employment; must be able to read, write, and follow verbal instructions in English; and a commitment to providing excellence in service required. Six months food handlers’ experience is preferred.
Preferences
A successful candidate possesses exceptional customer service skills, is a self-starter with a dedication to quality, presentation and cleanliness. Reliability and dependability are a must.
Previous experience in food and beverage, cash handling and customer service.
