Job Summary
This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of a student's on campus experience. Reports to the Director of Housing and Residence Life. This position is responsible for decision-making authority in the absence of the Director. Responsible for personnel activities that relate to the student development of staff. Must maintain strong relationships with the Dean of Students Office, University Police, Counseling Center and Accessibility Services, and Health Services staff and other university support services. Prepare management's discussion, analysis and recommendations for HRL. Plays a vital role in developing and interpreting policies, problem solving, crisis and emergency management, goal setting, and future planning. This position requires a valid drivers license. Manages and uses a Pcard.
Responsibilities
1-
Prepare documents, analysis, and recommendations for HRL, as requested by other departments, as well as the Division of Student Affairs. Collaborate with the Director on strategic organizational training. Staff Development using departmental workshops, conferences, staff meetings, and special projects. Responsible for advancing and growing the department in partnership with the Director. Provide leadership oversight to departmental intervention strategies for at-risk students. Work collaboratively with campus partners to continue to develop residential High Impact Practices like Living and Learning Communities and in hall tutoring programs. The position will develop and implement a focused engagement plan for approximately 2800 residential students that will focus on belonging and place making, key values for the institution.

Under the supervision of the Director of Housing and Residence Life, this position provides recommendations, leadership, and assistance in developing and delivering a coordinated and comprehensive residential life program supporting student success, retention, progression, and graduation. Oversight of all areas in residence life, including but not limited to: strategic planning, budgeting, programming, training, and residential education that supports recruitment, retention, progression and graduation, training and development, personnel, discipline management, judicial hearings, goal setting, and summer residence and camps/conference programs. As head of one of the department's divisions, responsible for up to 8 professionals, indirectly 15 graduate assistants, 75 Resident Assistants, and approximately 2,000 residential students. Responsible for all personnel activities that relate to the Residence Life functional area, including recruitment, training, development, and evaluations.

Work collaboratively with offices across campus to provide an optimal student experience for Residents. Offices include but are not limited to Office of Student Accounts and Billing, Athletics, Center for Academic Success, Counseling and Accessibility Services, University Police, Health Center, Dean of Students, Office of Community Standards, Academic Transition Programs Center for Student Involvement and Inclusion, and Career Services. As the department liaison to University Police, comanage safety and security procedures for Campus Residence Halls. Conduct security audits to identify potential vulnerabilities related to physical security, staff safety, or asset protection. Design security policies, programs, or practices to ensure adequate security relating to issues such as protection of assets, alarm response, and access card use. Respond to emergencies on an on-call basis. Prepare, maintain or update security procedures, security system drawings, or related documentation. Train personnel in security procedures or use of security equipment. Responsible for the development and enforcement of the Department's Policies and Procedures Manual, which includes the Residence Life Handbook and Student Contract. - Serve on department and university committees with campus partners that advance the institutions mission, values, and strategic plan. Manages budgets for personnel, scholarship, and student social fee programming dollars. Must possess an understanding of departmental and university budgeting processes and procedures. The Associate Director relies heavily on administrative skills to manage committee tasks, human resource processes, and staff training. The Associate Director leads student development educators that serve this institutional mission. Attends all department, division meetings, retreats, and professional development workshops, and participates in other committee opportunities; assists with Department and Student Life initiatives assigned by the Director of Housing and Residence Life.

Provide crisis intervention and referral services 24/7/365 beyond the normal workweek through serving on-call for a university-wide response. This includes coordinating incident response for 2800 students, including highly complex cases in nature and may be life-threatening. Assess student behavior and formulate responses (i.e., educational and student conduct) to student concerns. Educate staff and students about and ensure adherence to the University Code of Conduct, Residence Hall Regulations, and fire and safety codes. Monitor staff activities and issue-response in a manner that protects student wellbeing and institutional liability concerns. Effectively relay crisis information to various department and institutional stakeholders such as Director and Assistant/Associate Directors, Dean of Students Office, Center for Counseling and Student Development, University Police Department, etc. Serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus.
