Job Summary

The Residence Life Manager is a 12-month, full time professional who provides developmental leadership for the graduate and undergraduate student staff in an area of campus housing approximately 1500 students and is supervised by the Associate Director for Housing and Residence Life. The campus is served by two Area Managers. This is a live on campus position.

Responsibilities

1. -
Train, direct, supervise, and evaluate 2-4 Residence Life staff including Graduate Assistants and indirect supervision of the RA staff reporting to the GA and service desk workers. Select, train, develop, support, mentor and evaluate Graduate Assistant (GA) staff for assigned building/area. Assist in the overall coordination of RA & Service Desk selection by recruiting potential candidates, and fully participating in interviews and discussions about candidates. Conduct weekly building/area staff meetings to disseminate information to student staff, and aid in ongoing staff training and development. Assist in the overall coordination, as well as attend, participate, and present in all Staff training and InServices including professional, graduate, and RA staff. Attend and facilitate weekly department wide staff meetings Conduct weekly or biweekly one-on-one supervisory meetings with direct reports and rotating indirect reports in direct supervision area. Provide ongoing feedback on job performance to staff and conduct formal performance evaluations each semester.

Oversee, support, and evaluate GAs and RAs in planning and implementation of events and activities based on the departmental programming model ' Residential Curriculum Model. Maintain an awareness of events and activities taking place in the area of assignment as well as on campus, including attending events when practical. Establish personal and professional relationships with residents in area of assignment. Actively promote an environment in which individual students' rights and the Community Living Guide are continually upheld. Develop and implement new ideas and concepts to improve the quality of life within the residence halls. Co-Advise the Residence Hall Association which includes training officers, group development, goal setting, and active support for hall activities. Support the ongoing Living Learning Communities within the assigned building(s) through building and maintaining connections with campus partners and engaging programmatic components.

Administrative Duties, On-Call, & Emergency Response Understand and disseminate emergency procedures and guidelines to staff, residents, and outside cooperating agencies. Participates in the rotating 'on-duty' system with other departmental professional staff, responding to emergencies on evenings and weekends, and during periods when the university is closed. Respond to and support staff members through emergencies, urgent matters, and policy violations on campus including evenings, weekends, holiday breaks. Use departmental protocol to respond to crisis or emergency situations which includes providing guidance to staff including paraprofessional staff and students. Collaborate with local and college authorities in responding to emergencies. Communicate with students/staff and maintain working office hours daily during normal business hours (8:00 AM 5:00 PM, MF). The Residence Life Manager position requires a nontraditional work schedule, by providing duty coverage for the assigned area, which does include weekends and holidays. Provides oversight to the follow-up and referral process for all students facing crises. Ability to express proficiency with active listening, monitoring, social perceptiveness, speaking and coordination skills. (Highly developed skills within this subject matter can increase the department's ability to be proactive and practice proper preventative measures in numerous risk prone situations that could adversely affect Cultivate successful professional relationships with students, parents of students, Graduate Assistant Resident Directors, Associate Director, Director of HRL, support staff, LLC campus partners, and other campus departments. Serve on committees as directed, assigned, or voluntarily as a department representative. Meet weekly with the Graduate Assistant Resident Director to discuss issues, concerns, and progress toward personal, staff, or community goals or issues of concern.

Assist HRL in opening and closing of the residence halls at the beginning and end of the academic year, and during periods of academic recess. Work cooperatively with Facilities & Grounds in matters related to hall maintenance, custodial, room assignments, roommate conflicts, verification of occupancy and hall/room damage issues. Assist in the operation of area desks by providing daily supervision and task management. Process approved room changes within assigned area, participate in department-wide room change time periods, and maintain awareness of roster changes. Receive and process reports of damages, needed repairs, and items of a similar nature, and follow up regarding completion of repairs. Maintain professional relationships and communication with facilities and custodial staff. Monitor and inventory storage areas, lounge and public areas in the area of assignment. Attends all department, division meetings, retreats, and professional development workshops, and participates in other committee opportunities; assists with Department and Student Affairs initiatives assigned by the Department.

Knowledge of student development theory; organization of human relation skills; knowledge in laws governing housing accommodations including, but not limited to, FERPA, ADA, Title IX, etc.; proficient in the use of data management applications, excellent written and oral expression abilities; strong deductive and inductive reasoning abilities; demonstrated technical literacy including database management skills, ability to diplomatically handle difficult or urgent matters in a confident and proficient manner; ability to foster and promote an integrated team approach; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment.

Proposed Salary

$50,540.00 Annually. Paid on a Monthly Basis.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
To best aid the department in achieving these goals, the Residence Life Manager Manager must employ a student centered approach, the ability to identify and address student needs, facilities operations knowledge, a desire to collaborate, strategic problem solving ability, sound judgment, administrative management skills, and a timely response to problems that arise. Residence Life Managers play a key role in RA staff selection, training, development, and evaluation. The Residence Life Manager is responsible for an area of assignment with 1500 residents and directs social and educational programming initiatives, facilitates student mentorship and leadership development, adjudicates student conduct cases, and completes other duties as assigned by supervisory staff members, or that arise as part of meeting the needs of the students, community, or University.

Physical Requirements Lifting - up to 15lbs Office Environment - Work normally performed in a typical interior work environment.
