Position Summary

We are searching for a Music Educator who will inspire students through expert delivery of content in both music appreciation and PK-12 general music education methods. The candidate should be able to convey a sense of passion by performing and modeling in relevant settings, including classroom, studio and lab settings. UWL and the Department of Music grants opportunities for professional development both on- and off-campus.

The Department of Music at UW-La Crosse is soliciting qualified candidates for a 100% Assistant teaching professor position to teach music appreciation and PK-12 music education methods, serve as General Education Coordinator for the department, as well as other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the department.

Primary responsibilities may include the following :

  • Teaching PK-12 general music education methods courses;
  • Teaching music appreciation large and small sections;Coordinating pedagogy and assessment across all music appreciation instructors
  • Supervising pre-service teachers in field experiences and student teaching;
  • Recruiting music majors and minors for the program;
  • One of the following : teaching applied lessons in one or more of the following areas of departmental need : bass, cello, double reeds, euphonium, horn, guitar, piano, percussion, saxophone, trombone, tuba, viola, or violin;Directing an ensembleCollaborative piano

This position is affiliated with the School of Education (SOE) and the dean of SOE will provide feedback regarding hiring and personnel reviews. School of Education affiliated staff are expected to be engaged in activities and continuous learning to inform and enhance the work they do with prospective teachers. Some additional work hours outside the academic school year may be required in order to align duties with the K-12 school year. Staff in this position collaborate with the School of Education on advising and curricular-related issues.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a master’s degree completed or advanced doctoral student in music or related field;
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience in US PK-12 schools;
  • Strong interest in teaching music appreciation courses;
  • Evidence of a collaborative and open-minded approach to working with students and colleagues.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Established record of teaching at the university level
