Job Summary:

Come join the Language Sciences Program in the College of Letters & Science! This role will teach some combination of Linguistics 351: American Sign Language I, Linguistics 352: American Sign Language II, Linguistics 353: American Sign Language III, or any further American Sign Language courses developed by the unit. Other key functions of this role include teaching and leading discussion sections, preparing, instructing, grading papers, holding office hours, and submitting grades.

Responsibilities: Facilitates classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction and assists with instructional development and design for a single course or series of courses within an academic discipline to support the delivery of quality instruction. Provides for-credit instruction in formats such as classroom, online and/or laboratory settings, including grading. Serves as an instructor of record.
  • 80% Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
  • 10% Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
  • 10% Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:
-Demonstrated fluency in expressive and receptive American Sign Language (ASLPI proficiency level of 4 or higher)
-Knowledge of Deaf History & Culture through personal experience or Deaf Studies coursework
-Minimum of one year of successful experience teaching credit-bearing American Sign Language courses at the High School or collegiate level

Preferred Qualifications:
-American Sign Language Teacher's Association certification
-Demonstrated efforts toward ongoing professional development
-Knowledge of best practices in second-language pedagogy
-Proficient in use of learning technologies for effective teaching

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $50,000 ACADEMIC (9 months)
Depending on Qualifications
The typical starting salary for this position is $50,000 - $55,000 depending on qualifications and experience. The salary will be paid out over 9 months. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as sick leave; competitive insurance and saving accounts; and retirement benefits. Employees have the option to continue benefits for the full calendar year.

Additional Information:

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship. The selected applicant will be responsible for ensuring their continuous eligibility to work in the United States (i.e. a citizen or national of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, a foreign national authorized to work in the United States without the need of an employer sponsorship) on or before the effective date of appointment.
