Job Summary:

The Department of Surgical Sciences of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time Clinical Professor, Clinical Associate Professor, or Clinical Assistant Professor in Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery. The successful candidate will join the Small Animal Surgery Section, which is comprised 6 full-time ACVS Diplomates, 6 residents/surgical interns, and a dynamic group of certified veterinary technicians.

The UW Veterinary Care teaching hospital is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment including arthroscopy, 3T MRI, CT, ultrasound, 3D printing, and force-platform gait analysis. The Department and School are interested in continuing to develop our innovative academic programs, including translational clinical research studies in orthopedic genetics, musculoskeletal imaging, arthroscopic surgery, integrated trauma care, 3D printing for limb deformity correction, total joint arthroplasty, and virtual mechanical testing using finite element modeling.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include providing clinical service in the teaching hospital, participation in clinical. and didactic teaching of veterinary students, residents and interns, and pursuit of clinical research. Clinical duties include leading resident-based or student-based rounds that involve approximately 5 hours per week. Student case-based rounds are conducted by faculty in conjunction with residents when the faculty are assigned to clinic duties.

Approximately 50-80% in Clinical Practice of Small Animal Orthopedic Surgery (including 22-26 weeks/year of clinic duty) and Teaching (10-15 lectures/year and 8-12 laboratories/year), 10-35% in Research, and 10-15% in Service.

DVM - Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or equivalent degree.

Qualifications:

A Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) with advanced training in orthopedic surgery is preferred. Board eligible individuals will also be considered. Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to develop an academic program that includes Orthopedic Surgery.

This position has a strong emphasis on patient management, but also teaching and clinical research. Experience working with, teaching, or mentoring diverse groups including interns, residents and students is preferred.

License/Certification:

Must be eligible to obtain and maintain licensure to practice veterinary medicine in the State of

Wisconsin.

The SVM team provides outstanding programs in veterinary medical education, research, clinical practice, and service that enhances the health and welfare of both animals and people and contribute to the economic well-being of the state of Wisconsin.

SVM is nearing the end of construction on the new facility that will improve instruction space for students, double the size of the school's small animal hospital and significantly enhance the large animal hospital, expand labs for studying naturally occurring animal and human diseases, and increase and modernize infectious disease research space. Future upgrades via remodeling of current hospital include an Imaging Center with large animal-capable 3T MRI, 16-slice CT, and future PET-CT. Completion of the addition is projected for late 2023.
