Job Summary :

The Assistant Technical Director works closely with the Technical Director and collaborates with a variety of stakeholders, ensemble conductors, music faculty, students, staff, guest artists, and student technicians, to produce live and recorded concerts in the Mead Witter School of Music. The position primarily oversees the audio elements of concerts and events, but also supports other technical areas as needed. Duties include :

  • Providing technical support for School of Music events, specifically in audio, lighting, video, and other production-related areas. Assist in troubleshooting systems.
  • Leading the training of student hourly audio specialists.
  • Coordinating with Technical Director to plan production support of School of Music events.
  • Managing storage and inventory of audio recording equipment.
  • Maintaining and enforcing current best practices related to live and recorded music events.
  • Providing input on audio system design, equipment, and practices.
  • Maintaining a flexible work schedule to support events in evenings and on weekends.

Responsibilities :

Manages planning and projects related to complex live and pre-recorded settings for the creation of content. Serves as engineering team leader during production shifts and operates audio and / or video production equipment.

  • 25% Sets up, adjusts, connects, operates, and troubleshoots complex audio and / or video equipment and related peripherals in various environments.
  • 30% Digitally records, edits, and finalizes media in a variety of formats according to station standards and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) regulations.
  • 10% Schedules logistics and acts as station representative for remote production venues, ensuring required technical specifications will be met during on or off-site productions.
  • 10% Tests and maintains equipment, and provides recommendations for alternative hardware and software to improve performance.
  • 5% May serve as engineering team lead for on or off-site productions.
  • 10% Trains staff on equipment, procedures, and standards.
  • 10% Leads system design and installation of broadcast, streaming, and post-production related technology.

    Qualifications :

    Required Qualifications :

  • Experience in music recording techniques and live audio reinforcement in professional concert settings.
  • Current technical knowledge of and experience in the operation and maintenance of audio, video, and lighting systems.
  • Ability to train, direct, and evaluate student hourly employees.
  • Knowledge of and experience with modern DAWs (Pro Tools, Logic, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work with undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience with system installation (audio, lighting, video).
  • Experience operating Yamaha audio consoles.
  • Experience operating ETC lighting controls.
  • Dante certification level II.
  • Familiarity with video production equipment.
  • Basic knowledge of computer networks.

    It is anticipated this position requires work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. This role requires a flexible work schedule to support events in evenings and on weekends.

    Minimum : $42,509 ACADEMIC (9 months)

    Depending on Qualifications

    Qualified candidates for this 9-month position can expect to earn about $43,000. Highly qualified candidates with extensive experience and / or specialized skills can expect to earn more. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as sick leave; competitive insurance and savings accounts; and retirement benefits. Employees have the option to continue benefits for the full calendar year.
