Position Summary :
Installs, maintains, repairs and operates HVAC, environmental control and refrigeration equipment to ensure proper operation within assigned facilities. In addition, this position provides general building maintenance and repair functions.
Responsibilities
Monitors, tests, maintains, repairs and operates Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems, related equipment, and controls according to established policies and procedures
Perform general building maintenance and building laboratory systems maintenance / operation.
Receives, prioritizes, and responds to service requests according to established timelines and policies
Identifies, prioritizes, troubleshoots, and escalates system problems, equipment malfunctions, and repair needs
Performs scheduled preventative and routine maintenance and documents activity on equipment and systems to ensure optimal and safe operation
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Required :
Experience with HVAC systems in institutional / commercial buildings.
Experience with general building maintenance in institutional / commercial buildings.
Analytical skills necessary to diagnose and correct failures in equipment and related systems.
Ability for timely communication with styles that are approachable and respectable; engages in active listening by holding interruptions and responding concisely.
Ability to engage in all job-related customer service interactions and activities with contacts from within and outside the University in a courteous and professional manner.
Willingly anticipate, identify and adopt change.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and effectively organize work to be as productive as possible.
Ability to perform all essential job functions accurately and safely with minimal direct supervision.
Ability to maintain a valid driver’s license that permits Wisconsin certification to drive University vehicles
Must have sufficient physical flexibility to stoop, crawl under equipment and other low spaces to perform preventive maintenance tasks.
Must be physically able to lift your arms above your head in order to reach remote HVAC equipment
Ability to climb stairs, ladders and scaffolding, and work at heights above 30 feet to reach equipment.
Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull medium weights up to 50 lbs.
Ability to enter, exit, and perform duties in confined spaces occasionally.
Ability to utilize a computer for Microsoft Office programs : Outlook, Excel, and Word
Successful completion of a post-offer employment physical test.
