Department Description
The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Department of World Languages and Literatures houses 4 majors and is currently staffed with 4.5 tenure-track faculty and 3 academic staff members. It is also home of the UW-System Collaborative Language Program. The department has a long-standing tradition to host Fulbright Language Teaching Assistants. It prides itself on providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary for success in a wide range of career paths: language teaching, global education, domestic and international non-profit organizations. The study of world languages (Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Russian, and Spanish) prepares students to communicate effectively across cultures, think logically and critically, value diversity and promote global cultural competencies. JOB DETAILS:
Position Summary
The Cultural Studies Specialist Lecturer will have a teaching load of 12 credits per semester. The successful candidate will primarily teach interdisciplinary courses that examine the complex and interconnected nature of the world, carrying General Education designations in Humanities and Global Awareness such as Humanities in World Cultures. They could also be asked to teach Topics in World Cultures or Introduction to World Languages. The candidate should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching languages and cultures, with advanced linguistic proficiency in one of the languages offered by the department, preferably French, German, or Spanish. Additionally, the role involves recruiting students for the Department of World Languages and Literatures and International Studies majors/minors, as well as promoting study abroad programs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications
- M.A., Ph.D., or ABD in Global Cultural Studies, Humanities, Foreign Languages, or a related field
- Advanced linguistic proficiency in one of the languages offered by the department (French, German, or Spanish)
- A record of outstanding teaching, as well as a demonstrated strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and awareness of the importance of diversity in education
Preferred Qualifications
- A specialist in non-Western cultures with advanced linguistic proficiency in French, German, or Spanish to the extent of doing research using any of these languages.

Terms of Employment
This is a no intent to renew, Academic Staff academic year-based appointment, exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act. The position is expected to hold a minimum of one (1) academic year appointment, with possibility for a second or third year thereafter. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Please note that successful applicants are responsible for ensuring their eligibility to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the United States, a lawful permanent resident, a foreign national authorized to work in the United States without the need of employer sponsorship) on or before the effective date of appointment.
