Job Summary
The Data Analytics Director is responsible for managing the shared services approach to providing research and analytics to the nine state colleges of the USG. This includes management of interfacing with state college leaders to gather requirements for projects and the management of the analytical projects themselves (development of the analytical approach, gathering of data, execution of analytics, and rollout to state college leaders) and their budgets and staffing. The Data Analytics Director will direct the work of other analytics specialists as appropriate and report to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Policy Analysis.
Responsibilities
- Directs the day-to-day operations of state college analytics provision.
- Coordinates the development, implementation, communication and enforcement of procedures used to provide analytics to the state colleges.
- Collaborates with USG institutions (mainly state colleges), other System Office departments, and external constituencies to conduct needs assessments and to recommend and implement analytics approaches to addressing specific issues and concerns.
- Coordinates analytical projects: gathering of requirements, development of analytical approach in collaboration with other System Office departments, assembling of data, execution of analytics, and testing.
- Coordinates the delivery of training on analytical products for institutional administrators, faculty or staff.
- Represents the state college analytics work as needed on internal and external committees.
- Prepares reports relating to work in progress in order to document the development process and progress in general and for potential system-wide implementation.
- Provides project management oversight, including planning, design and development, and budgeting for multiple system-level projects; manages project activities to ensure project quality and adherence to timelines, budgets and criteria.
- Prepares reports for system-wide distribution, including project status reports.
- Provides advice and consultation to USG administrators, faculty and staff.
- Participates in system-wide events as an expert in content and practice.
- Coordinates groups and committees at system institutions and the system office to find solutions to newly identified state-wide issues; leads projects with state, regional and national implications.
- Manages the performance measurement of the state college shared services approach.
- Interviews, hires, trains, assigns, directs, schedules, supervises, evaluates and disciplines department personnel.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in statistics, data science, computer science, research methods, higher education or related field.
- Over five years of related experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Proficiency in SQL and other programming languages (Python, R, Stata) for querying, transforming, and analyzing data;
- Skilled in data visualization tools such as Power BI (preferred), Tableau, or Qlik to provide actionable insights for decision-makers;
- Advanced competency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, slicers, and Power Query)
- Extensive experience in data analysis and applied statistical methods;
- Ability to document business processes and technical workflows to support institutional decision-making;
- Proven ability to translate complex data analyses into clear, actionable insights tailored for diverse stakeholders, including system leadership, institution leadership, and other functional areas
- Knowledge of federal and state laws, rules and regulations impacting higher education;
- Knowledge of Board of Regents policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of best practices in higher education.
- Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents.
- Skill in decision making and problem solving.
- Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
