The data analyst is a new and exciting role in AITS. Work directly with university staff and faculty to help them utilize data analytics to enhance their capabilities and positively impact their goals. Establish relationships with clients, understand their needs, and partner with them to develop analytics solutions focused on their specific needs. Work with data and technical experts in AITS and across the System to ensure that we improve the data literacy of the university and provide the best solution for our clients in the most sustainable way. Ensure that clients know how to turn data into actionable insights.


Job Summary

Is a catalyst to enable units across the university to use data to their greatest advantage. Understand the business outcomes that clients are trying to achieve and assist them with developing data analytics solutions that will meet that need as appropriate. Coordinate and develop educational programs and courses to enhance the capability of clients to be confident in their ability to effectively use data. Enhance the capabilities of faculty and staff to use data in innovative ways to enhance the academic, research, and operational mission of the university. Help our clients have a direct impact on student success, research discovery, public service, and healthcare missions of the university.

Duties & Responsibilities


  • 1. Engage and assist university clients with understanding data and how to use it effectively.
  • 2. Synthesize client needs and utilize data analytics tools while working collaboratively to deliver solutions that meet client needs.
  • 3. Work with clients to design data analytics solutions including reports, dashboards, and other related data solutions.
  • 4. Collaborate with data analytics staff to develop data solutions that follow university standards and are sustainable for the long term.
  • 5. Coordinate and develop data education programs to enhance data literacy.
  • 6. Monitor success of developed solutions and sustain usefulness and accuracy by connecting with clients on a regular basis to improve solutions as necessary.
  • 7. Actively learn new data analytics technologies to be better prepared to enhance team and client success.
  • 8. Actively participate in project activities and provide project status to stakeholders and team members. Escalate issues as needed and assess and address risks to ensure project success.
  • 9. Actively participate in data analytics tool evaluation, selection, and implementation. Provide input and support for upgrades, capacity planning, and best practices.
  • 10. Perform other duties and responsibilities as appropriate.


Preferred Qualifications
1. Demonstrated experience with report and data visualization development.
2. Demonstrated experience with educational content development.
3. Experience with SQL query development.
4. Experience or education in the business, education, or science fields.
5. Experience in a higher education environment.
6. Experience with advanced data analytics solutions and use of APIs to work with data.

Specialty Factors
Two years of progressively more responsible work experience in an Information Technology (IT) related profession. College course work which included Information Technology (IT), IT Management, or a closely related discipline may be substituted as follows: 60 semester hours or Associate's Degree equals one (1) year, 90-120 semester hours or Bachelor's Degree equals two (2) years. Demonstrated experience educating non-technical clients on the use of and development of data analytics solutions OR demonstrated experience working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams or experience understanding data models and database environments OR demonstrated experience using critical thinking skills to understand client needs, find insights in data and deliver effective solutions.

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5031 - Information Technology Technical Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after close date. Salary is commensurate with experience. The salary range starts at $75,000. Professional development opportunities are available. Hybrid work arrangement for position will be considered based on skills and experience.
