What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Bioinformatics Scientist position at Unravel Biosciences?
Unravel Biosciences is an AI-enabled, precision therapeutics company spun out from Harvard University’s Wyss Institute. Our philosophy is simple: every person is unique and patients can’t wait. This makes our mission simple: transform the paradigm of drug development by clinically derisking new targets using existing drugs, starting with personalized discovery in individual patients. By treating patients, not diseases, we build better drugs that work across disorders to make rare and ultra-rare diseases commercially attractive.
Unravel has made this ambitious dream a reality. We expose the specific disease biology unfolding within a patient collaborator, identify novel drug targets, and validate the clinical efficacy of the personalized therapeutic strategy using readily available existing drugs before committing to new molecule development. Our non-invasive gene network analysis allows us to identify molecular signatures of disease within an individual suffering from a disease. Our AI-powered discovery engine uncovers new drug targets for specific patients. Our in vivo screening platform allows us to clinically validate the novel therapeutic strategy. Put together, we can discover, validate, and clinically de-risk individual disease biology 2-3x faster and >10x cheaper than competing approaches.
The Senior Scientist will work across the computational, wet lab, and clinical teams to drive the discovery of biological targets and therapeutics for rare neurological disorders and other indications. Using cutting edge bioinformatics approaches, including pathway and network analysis of RNAseq and multi-omic datasets from primary patient samples and various models, this role will link AI-predicted drugs with therapeutic targets and mechanisms, stratify complex patient populations, and develop drug response and other markers.
You will work within a dynamic, collegial team, working closely with biopharma and patients to rapidly translate novel discoveries into proof-of-concept clinical trials. You will contribute to discoveries across our neurodevelopmental/degenerative, myopathy, mitochondrial disease, and oncology programs, have the opportunity to influence our strategies and priorities, participate in the development of our technologies spanning many scientific and engineering disciplines, and a chance to bring discoveries into the clinic.
This is a hybrid work schedule, with company office and laboratory located in Medford, MA.
Responsibilities:
• Lead bioinformatics programs across the computational, wet lab, and clinical teams to:
o Optimize experimental design and sample collection strategy
o Develop and test drug target and patient stratification marker hypotheses
o Identify potential biomarkers for clinical trials
o Use statistical methods to analyze multiple data types, identify patterns and relationships across samples and datasets
