What are the responsibilities and job description for the Tool and Die Apprentice position at UPG?
UPG Electrical takes pride in serving automotive, consumer products, aerospace, and defense manufacturers, and logistics industries. Advanced processes include precision steel slitting services, high-speed lamination, stamping, high-pressure aluminum die casting, robotic welding, annealing, and complex assembly capabilities.
A Tool and Die Apprentice will perform a wide variety of duties to carbide progressive lamination tooling, including tooling maintenance, tooling changeover, new tooling run-offs, assisting production personal on set-ups and troubleshooting. They will also be required to participate in the UPG Electrical Tool & Die Maker Apprenticeship Program.
Responsibilities:
- Operates all manual toolroom equipment, at the highest level of proficiency.
- Fundamental understanding of basic data to make basic tooling adjustments.
- Manufacture components for tooling, to include use of surface grinder, lathe, mills, all within required tolerancing.
- Assisting other departments in machined components and fixtures, including fabrication of parts.
- Sharpen and maintain carbide progressive dies.
- Train with experienced toolmakers during the training process.
- You will be required to provide basic tools needed for position.
- Meet all requirements under the Tool and Die Maker Apprenticeship Program, including taking required classes and meeting the on-the-job training standards.
- Follow all safety regulations and maintain a clean work environment.
- Perform other duties, as assigned.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and CAD generated drawings.
- Ability to use an interpret a variety of measuring devices (e.g. micrometers, dial calipers, depth gauges, etc.)
- Ability to perform job duties without constant direction or supervision.
- Previous mechanical background in their career in such fields as maintenance, mechanical, machining, metalworking, etc.
- Understanding of basic press theory, preferred.
- Strong mechanical aptitude.
- Previous experience with surface grinders, mills, and lathes, preferred.
- Attention to detail; frequent mental and visual attention required.
- Ability to effectively communicate with team member and other departments.
- Ability to lift up to 40lbs regularly.
- Positive demeanor, dependability, and strong work ethic.
