Upland Workshop is seeking a Strategic Communications Associate to join our fast-growing team.
The candidate will support and assist leadership in developing overall strategy for high-level clients in key corporate sectors including finance, business, media, and technology, and lead research efforts that support clients’ strategic goals. Candidate should be a great collaborator, strategic thinker, and passionate about discovering unique ways to help companies and leaders tell their stories. The associate will be proficient at writing, strategic planning, research, and bring an energy and passion for understanding how information moves and is consumed. Anyone in this role must be able to multitask, prioritize assignments, and take initiative to develop ideas and solutions independently. Candidate should have a genuine love and interest in media and culture, and a deep understanding of new platforms and formats that use communications to drive business objectives. Anyone interested should have experience in or a desire to work in a startup-like atmosphere and be willing to think differently about traditional communications. Experience/exposure to finance and business strategy required.
Role and Responsibilities:
● Project Management - Ensuring research, decks, strategic planning, presentations are completed on schedule
● Supporting senior executives
● Copywriting for client proposals and strategic initiatives
● Direct engagement with clients
● Support relationship-building among media and influencers
● Conduct extensive research across industries relevant to Upland Workshop clients
● Understand the media, social media and information landscape, and how narratives are developed and shaped
● Proactively generate new ideas to help clients achieve business objectives
● Stay up-to-date on evolving technological tools that enable Upland Workshop to serve our clients better and expand our capabilities
● Ability to efficiently identify and synthesize information relevant to clients
Qualifications and Experience:
● Minimum 5 years in communications, journalism, management consulting, or advertising
● Fluency in traditional media and influencer media (Substack, podcasts, Reddit)
● Basic understanding of financial strategy (i.e. fundraising, SPAC, IPO, M&A)
● Previous experience researching and quickly understanding new fields, industries, and sectors
