Executive Director, Development - (Boston, MA)
Job Description:
We seek an Executive Director of Development for our renowned 500-bed medical center and leading academic medical center with a deep commitment to health equity. We have a proud history of serving all who come to us for care, and are dedicated to improving the health of our diverse community. We are currently undergoing exciting growth, including the integration of two new hospitals into our system, presenting unique opportunities for strategic philanthropic development.
Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Executive Director, Development to lead our Development Operations, Prospect Management, Events, and Development Strategy teams. Reporting to the VP & Chief Development Officer, you will be a pivotal member of the Development Executive Leadership Team, driving philanthropic initiatives and ensuring alignment with our institutional priorities. This role is essential in maximizing revenue and resources, particularly as we integrate two new hospitals into our system.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement comprehensive fundraising strategies, collaborating with hospital and system leadership to achieve ambitious revenue goals.
- Operational Excellence: Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient processes, and leveraging technology (Raiser's Edge NXT, etc.) to optimize performance.
- Financial Acumen: Analyze financial and philanthropic data, create insightful reports, and provide guidance on regulatory compliance and gift acceptance policies.
- Team Management: Lead and mentor a team of 20 professionals, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and professional growth.
- Prospect Management & Events: Direct strategies for identifying, cultivating, and stewarding major donors, and oversee the planning and execution of impactful fundraising events.
- System Integration: Play a key role in integrating philanthropic practices at our two newest hospitals, ensuring a cohesive approach across the system.
- Data-Driven Decision Making: Utilize data analytics to inform strategic decisions and track progress toward goals.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Minimum 15 years of operations and development experience in complex organizations.
- 10 years of leadership experience in a senior management role.
- Proven track record of achieving or exceeding fundraising goals in a large, fast-paced nonprofit or healthcare environment.
- Extensive experience with CRM databases (Raiser's Edge NXT preferred).
- Strong financial acumen and experience with budgeting and financial analysis.
- Excellent strategic planning, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Experience managing large teams and driving organizational change.
- Experience in a matrixed organization is highly desired.
- Knowledge of legal and compliance issues related to fundraising.

Location and Work Arrangement:
This position is based in Boston, MA, and requires the candidate to report onsite 3 days per week. Candidates must be able to work onsite as specified or be willing to relocate to the Boston, MA area.
