UPMC Family Hospice is hiring a Hospice Volunteer Coordinator to join their team supporting Erie County. This is a daylight, Monday-Friday position.
The hospice volunteer coordinator manages the volunteer component of the hospice program. She/he is accountable for directing and evaluating volunteers in all service areas: home care, bereavement, spiritual, clerical, and fundraising. In conjunction with other members of the hospice team, She/he plays a definitive role in community relations through recruiting, orienting, and training of all volunteers.
Responsibilities:
- Assign volunteers to hospice patients promptly based on the identified needs of the patients and the volunteer's capabilities
- Ensures the compatibility of the volunteer and patient/caregiver
- Possesses the ability to obtain and interpret information for assigned volunteers considering age-specific needs
- Assures that the volunteer has the needed information to meet the needs of the patient/caregiver
- Notifies the assigned volunteer when there are changes in the patient's condition, and level of care and upon the patient's death
- Ensures that the volunteer is meeting the identified needs of the patient/caregivers
- Assists with oversight of the volunteer portion of the bereavement program
- Attend compliance training and adhere to the organization's standards of conduct, policies, and procedures
- Plays an active role in the interdisciplinary team by ensuring that all team members are informed of the volunteer services provided to the patients/families and the ability of the volunteer to meet the needs of the patient /caregiver.
- Consults and coordinates services with other disciplines
- Performs duties and job responsibilities in a fashion that coincides with the service management philosophy of the organization towards patients, visitors, staff, peers, physicians, and other departments within the organization
- Identifies, develops, and participates in process improvement opportunities within the hospice agency that will enhance the quality of the services provided
- Focuses on customer service and continually strives to perform the duties of the job in a manner that will result in optimal patient satisfaction
- Utilizes innovative approaches to recruiting and retaining volunteers.
- Provides orientation and continued education to all volunteers that are consistent with industry standards
- Provides direction and oversight for the bereavement program as applicable
- Supports and guides volunteer services as needed to meet patients' and caregiver's needs
- Maintains record of use of volunteers for patient care and administrative services, including the type of services performed and volunteers' time to ensure that 5% of the patient care time is being provided by volunteers.
