UPMC Somerset's Acute Care is made up of the Cardiology Medicine Unit & Surgical Acute Care unit. These positions work rotating shifts including holidays and weekends. The Acute Care departments are truly a team! Employees are cross trained to function on both units and will float as needed.

- Graduate Nurses can be awarded up to $10,000 with a 2-year work commitment
- Experienced Nurses (1 years of experience) can be awarded up to $12,500 with a 2-year work commitment
Responsibilities:
- Prioritizes patient problems through critical thinking, distinguishing significant from non-significant deviations from normal and urgent from non-urgent needs.
- Assists in developing, implementing, and maintaining individualized patient care plans.
- Administers medications and performs treatments/procedures following the five rights of medication administration and medical plan protocols.
- Initiates and manages peripheral IV administration and maintenance fluid administration within state regulations and hospital standards.
- Conducts patient and family education under RN supervision.
- Applies standards of care effectively to ensure efficient patient care delivery.
- Maintains competency in routine nursing procedures.
- Cultivates a positive work environment by fostering constructive communication and relationships.
- Engages in formal and informal staff development activities within and outside the nursing unit.
- Identifies opportunities to enhance workflow efficiency and reduce care costs.
