Responsibilities:
- Coordinate daily schedules and patient flow.
- Accompany patients to exam or procedure rooms and assist with mobility, dressing, specimen collection, and exam preparation.
- Collect patient histories, vital signs, and perform screenings in accordance with provider guidelines.
- Communicate care instructions clearly to patients and families to ensure understanding and continuity of care.
- Send and receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
- Prepare patient rooms and set up instruments and equipment in accordance with department protocols.
- Clean exam and procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to ensure proper infection control.
- Follow scheduled maintenance programs for cleaning and maintain accurate records.
- Manage supply inventory and restock exam and procedure rooms as needed.
- Comply with requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health) and all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
- Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data.
- Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, level one labs, and clinic procedures in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Assist physicians with clinical procedures to support patient care.
- Document patient information accurately and thoroughly in the medical record.
- Answer calls and provide pertinent information, including patient education, as directed.
- Obtain lab and x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, and complete necessary forms and requisitions.
- Schedule patient appointments and coordinate follow-up as needed.
- Verify insurance coverage and confirm patient demographics for accuracy.
- Prepare and manage patient charts to ensure all information is complete, up-to-date, and properly filed.
- Perform other front office responsibilities as required.
- Administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate under the direction and supervision of a physician.
