This position is full-time, rotating day/night shifts.
Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience.
Purpose: The Patient Care Technician provides routine patient care under the direction of nurses or physicians, ensuring high-quality care. Responsibilities include performing ADLs, point-of-care testing, vital signs, telemetry monitoring, and preventing HAC/PSI. The role also involves simple dressings, restraint management, bladder scans, specimen collections, and patient transport. Competency in these tasks is required, along with at least one advanced skill such as phlebotomy, IV removal, Foley catheter removal, arrhythmia interpretation, 12-lead EKG, or NG tube management.
Responsibilities:
- Suggests and supports departmental changes and assumes responsibility for assignments.
- Views problems as challenges and demonstrates awareness of behavior impact on department efficiency. Supports projects and quality initiatives.
- Performs core nursing assistant tasks including ADLs, point of care testing, weights, vital signs, I&O, telemetry monitor application, HAC & PSI prevention, simple dressings, restraint management, bladder scan, specimen collections, ticket to ride.
- Reports equipment malfunctions and communicates effectively with other departments.
- Maintains professional relationships and contributes to unit activities. Receives feedback constructively and communicates learning needs to unit director.
- Improves knowledge, skills, and performance and requests assistance in planning activities. Participates in self-review. Communicates clearly with healthcare team.
- Understands cultural diversity and workplace safety. Develops productive relationships. Assists with patient procedures and ADLs.
- Provides feedback to RN, reports changes in patient status. Provides patient and family instruction.
- Manages patient restraints. Adheres to policies and procedures. Complies with safety standards.
- Documents in medical records. Completes work timely and productively. Completes clerical functions.
- Performs advanced skills: phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, NG tube clamping/removal.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
