This position is Full-Time, with rotating day and night shifts.
At least one year of direct patient care experience required.
Title and salary will be determined based upon education and experience.
Responsibilities:
- Provides patient care, including assisting with procedures and activities of daily living.
- Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies.
- Provides feedback to the RN and reports changes in patient status.
- Performs UPMC core nursing assistant responsibilities (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care).
- Completes at least four of the following tasks: phlebotomy, 12-lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, IV catheter removal.
- Reports equipment malfunctions.
- Communicates effectively with other departments.
- Establishes professional and respectful interpersonal relationships.
- Contributes to unit activities (responding to call lights, passing meal trays, transporting patients).
- Receives and acts on feedback and direction.
- Identifies and communicates learning needs to the unit director.
- Takes action to improve knowledge, skills, and performance.
- Requests assistance in planning and prioritizing activities.
- Participates in self-review.
- Provides patient and family instruction under the RN's direction.
- May apply, monitor, and remove patient restraints per protocol.
- Communicates clearly and effectively with the healthcare team.
- Understands cultural diversity, horizontal violence, and impairment in health professions.
- Supports workplace safety.
- Maintains productive relationships with colleagues and patients.
- Adheres to policies and procedures.
- Complies with safety policies and procedures, including standard precautions.
- Supports departmental changes and quality initiatives.
- Documents in the medical record according to procedures.
- Completes work in a timely and productive manner.
- Performs department clerical functions as needed.
- Achieves and maintains competency in advanced skills based on departmental needs (phlebotomy/venipuncture, peripheral IV removal, indwelling Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, NG tubes clamping and removal).
