UPMC Hamot is hiring a Professional Staff Nurse to join the TNICU!

We are looking for an experienced, caring, compassionate, team-oriented nurse with a passion for learning who excels in critical thinking!

The TNICU is a 16-bed unit on the second floor of the patient care tower.  The exceptional care provided in this unit contributes to UPMC Hamot’s certification as a Level II Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center. Some of our specific patient populations include:

  •       Trauma
  •       Surgical
  •       Kidney Transplants
  •       Neurosurgery
  •        Hemorrhagic Strokes requiring Neurointervention

Overview: The Professional Staff Nurse, a Registered Nurse, is a key member of the care delivery team responsible for setting care standards and ensuring quality. They manage and provide patient care using independent judgment, communication, and collaboration with team members. Their role includes leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision. They maintain collaborative relationships with physicians, other healthcare providers, patients, and families to achieve desired outcomes. Additionally, they demonstrate a commitment to the community and the nursing profession.


Responsibilities:

  • Develops and maintains productive working relationships by demonstrating accountability, enthusiasm, motivation, and commitment to patients and colleagues.
  • Understands cultural differences and holds peers accountable for healthy relationships.
  • Maintains a balance between work and personal life, models safe work hours, time management, and a healthy lifestyle.
  • Communicates safety hazards to peers and management. Demonstrates knowledge of adult learning principles and applies them in teaching patients, families, students, and new staff.
  • Provides detailed teaching to guide patients and families through care transitions. Supports the development of students, new staff, and colleagues, and may serve as a preceptor.
  • Creates an environment of open dialogue and continuous development by seeking feedback.
  • Applies the nursing process within Relationship Based Care to create a healing environment. Formulates daily goals and care plans with patients, considering their holistic needs. Demonstrates critical thinking in identifying clinical, social, safety, psychological, and spiritual issues.
  • Practices solid communication skills, articulates patient conditions to care providers, and recommends changes in care.
  • Ensures comprehensive patient documentation to promote communication between caregivers.
  • Incorporates goals from national professional organizations, business units, and health systems to improve patient safety, quality, and satisfaction.
  • Builds healing relationships with patients, families, and colleagues to create a compassionate patient-focused experience.
  • Demonstrates accountability for professional development to improve practice quality and patient care.
  • Actively participates in unit-based shared governance, goal setting, and supports change processes.
  • Engages fully as a care team partner, responding to team needs for assistance and partnership.
  • Participates in work to improve patient care and the professional practice environment.
  • Adapts to change and demonstrates flexibility.
  • Actively participates in quality improvement efforts, identifies opportunities for improvement, and takes responsibility for enhancing patient satisfaction.
  • Utilizes research and evidence-based practice to support clinical care improvements, discusses quality improvement opportunities, and influences patient care plans.
