UPMC Hamot is hiring a patient care technician to join our Trauma Neuro ICU Unit!
This position is full-time, shifts ranging from 7pm-7am and 7am-7pm.
Title and Salary will be determined based upon education and experience.
Responsibilities:
- Provides patient care, assists with procedures and daily living activities.
- Assists with physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies. Provides feedback to RN and reports changes in patient status.
- Performs core nursing assistant tasks (blood glucose, weights, vital signs, I&O, specimen collections, Foley care).
- Performs at least four additional tasks (phlebotomy, 12 lead EKG, simple dressing, Foley catheter removal, point of care testing, bladder scan, straight catheter, IV catheter removal).
- Reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate department.
- Communicates effectively with other departments and maintains professional relationships.
- Contributes to unit activities (responding to call lights, passing meal trays, transporting patients).
- Receives feedback and direction constructively, identifies learning needs, and improves skills.
- Provides patient and family instruction under RN direction, applies and removes restraints as needed.
- Communicates clearly with healthcare team, understands cultural diversity, supports workplace safety.
- Adheres to all patient care policies and safety procedures. Supports department changes, projects, and quality initiatives.
- Documents in medical records, performs clerical functions as needed.
- Achieves and maintains competency in advanced skills (phlebotomy, IV removal, Foley catheter removal, basic arrhythmia, 12-lead EKG, NG tubes clamping/removal).
- Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors. Performs other duties as assigned.
