Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in education from an accredited college or university
- Valid Ohio Special Education Teaching Certificate/License
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate
- Ability to work effectively with others
- Knowledge of the Operating Standards for Ohio’s Schools Serving Children with Disabilities
- Knowledge of FERPA and HIPAA
- Knowledge of Ohio’s Academic Content Standard
- Knowledge of IEP development
- Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing
- Effective, active listening skills
- Organizational and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated a positive work ethic
- Attend work regularly and punctually

- Assists in providing staff development activities related to modification and adaptation of curriculum and instruction
- Communicates regularly with parents and professional staff regarding the educational, social, and personal needs of student
- Serves as a building resource person to identify and provide instructional materials and strategies which diagnose and respond to individual student competencies and needs
- Assists the special education student in making an assessment of his/her abilities and in establishing educational and vocational occupational goals in keeping with these abilities
- Serves as member of the building intervention assistance teams
- Provides support for the case managers of students referred to intervention assistance teams, including observations of students
- Assists in reviewing the implementation of 504 Plans and IEPs
- Provides modeling of specific teaching strategies for the classroom teacher
- Provides additional support for classroom teachers through information on research, changes in the law, and speakers on relevant topics
- Occasional interaction among unruly children
- Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue
- Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull various items up to a maximum of 25 pounds, e.g., paper boxes, deliveries of supplies and equipment
- Occasional travel, e.g., attending workshop outside of district
- Frequently move and position self as necessary to access and operate equipment
- Frequently move around workspace and travel throughout school building
